Carte/Card

Altenew – Magnolias & Brushos

Bonjour !

Hello !

I hope you had a great weekend! Here we spent a summer weekend with unusual temperatures for a beginning of April! We took the opportunity to walk and enjoy all the smells of grass, flowers and trees as well as to make a barbecue with friends!

But I took some time to play in my scraproom! My sister asked me for a card for a colleague who is retiring, so I pulled out the Brushos and a NBUS and new (for me!) Altenew stamp.

This colleague doing a lot of paintings, I thought a watercolor card was perfect for her! Having loved the result of mixing Brushos + Stamping in one of my previous cards, I wanted to try again!

On watercolor paper I stamped, using masks, the different flowers of magnolia with Distress ink. Then with a moistened brush I diluted the ink towards the inside of the petals. On an acrylic block, I mixed the distress ink with water to be able to add a little more color on certain areas to give more relief and depth to the flowers.

On another watercolour paper, I played with two (NBUS) green tones of Brushos combined with a smooshing of two greens Distress inks! I let it dry and then I cut two stripes. If it were to be done again I will make sure to cut in one piece in order to not have to join the two stripes of paper ! I also cut the image of magnolia by leaving only a few petals overlaping the green background when mounting the card.

The green stripes of paper are directly mounted on the base card with double sided adhesive and the image of the magnolia is first mounted on adhesive foam before being adhered to the double card.

My sister did not want sentiment (personally I will have put one because I find something is missing!) So I put three sequins to add a little interest to the card. And Voilà ! Anyway, I had fun once again to watercolour these flowers and to play with the Brushos!

Thank you for your visit and feel free to leave me a comment, I am always delighted to hear from you. See you soon I hope ! 😀

  1. Hi Izzy
Sorry to be so late commenting here, what an amzing piece of art you have created! Love your DI work on the Magnolia and the Brusho edging really sets it off to perfection. I’m sure it will have been treasured by the recipient.
Thanks so much for joining our CAS blend challenge at Happy Little Stampers and do hope you’ll join us again in May.

  2. Amazing watercolor background, wonderful colors that blend beautifully. I love cards where the image is partially cut and creates a unique edge. This is really a great project.
Thank you for joining our challenge in HLS.
    Regards,

  3. Wow!! So many things caught my eye. First the gorgeous pink flowers. Then the lovely green edging. Next I noticed how you created the cutouts of the flowers so they would lay over top of the green. Great job!!

  4. Goodness, this is beautiful, Isabelle … such delicate colouring of those lovely magnolia … they’re splendid hanging over the gorgeous, rich brusho background … such a work of art! I’m sure your sister loved it … and her colleague too! We too have been having wonderful weather … what a joy! Your photo’s are fabulous … spring looks as though it has arrived … and the barbeque looks (and no doubt tasted) scrumptious! Bises, Anita 🙂

  5. Wow Izzy this is a work of art! I want to try out this coloring technique too, thank you so much for the inspiration! The brush bg looks wonderful and is the perfect backdrop for these pretty flowers. Stunning card! Thanks for joining us at Inkspirational!

  6. Gorgeous card, Izzy! You captured the beauty of the magnolias perfectly. Great work with the Brushos. I have Color Bursts and struggle with using them. I love your design and how you have the flowers extend onto the beautiful green strips. Love it! You just reminded me to pull out my magnolias set.

    1. Thanks so much Trina for your sweet comment ! You know what, I also struggle with Brushos and with smooshing but that’s the result ! So it worth struggling 😄 !

  7. Oh it’s beautiful Izzy! I think you have captured the tones of the magnolia beautifully. I love the design of the card and the way you have let the flowers overhang the green Brusho backdrop – so pretty! I would have also wanted to add a sentiment as I never seem to make cards without one and I enjoy the distinction, BUT I think here it works perfectly to add the sequins. Your Brusho work is amazing and I would love to have seen the mess on your desk with smooshing and Brusho! And enjoyed seeing the pictures of where you live, so beautiful . We spend many of our holidays in France, and love it there. Hugs, Lisa xx

    1. 😄 Thank you Lisa for your lovely comment ! In fact not such a mess, the first time I tried I got trapped so now I figured out !
      Hugs xx

  8. Oh my, this card is truly spectacular! The Brusho borders and the perfectly colored flowers (now I want this set!) that go beyond the edge – a fantastic piece of art!
Thank you for sharing photos of spring in your area! We finally had some warm temperatures but nothing blooms yet.
Btw, I cannot pin any of your pictures on pinterest (I do that for my inspiration) – is that intentionally? If yes, I didn’t even know there was a setting for that…

  9. Your watercoloured blooms are gorgeous, Izzy!! Great job with adding shading to give them lots of dimension. And I love your design the the flowers going outside the box and overlapping the bright and bold colours from your green Brusho background. Fantastic!! Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Watercolour!

  10. Your magnolias are so beautifully watercolored, Isabelle! And the combination of Brusho and Distress ink make a gorgeous and interesting companion! Your photos are beautiful too! Isn’t spring grand? Thanks so much for sharing this with us at CAS Watercolour!

  11. Beautiful photos from your gorgeous weekend, Izzy! The photo of the magnolia shows just have fantastic the Altenew artist was in creating this stamp and shows how perfectly you watercolored them! I think offsetting your card panel with the vivid Brusho background is genius! It’s sensational and I like it with just the sequins because that way the eye is drawn to the flowers and that amazing Brusho strip! It’s a winner in my book in all those challenges! Thank you so much for joining in my NBUS Challenge #11!! I hope your lovely weather continues!! Hugs, Darnell

  12. Stunning contrast between the two colourways and I love that you shared your inspiration photos. Totally gorgeous card Izzy, swooning! Thanks for playing at AAA Cards.
