Less is More Week #349 – Hot & Spicy

Bonjour !

Nous avons un joli thème cette semaine chez Less is More puisqu’il s’agit d’utiliser des couleurs chaudes comme celles des épices !

Hello !

We have a lovely theme this week at Less is More since it’s about using hot and spicy colours !

This month our sponsor is Uniko and we are delighted to welcome Bev (owner and designer at Uniko) as our Guest Designer. If you are lucky enough to be in Port Sunlight for the Happy Stampers Festival today, you can meet Bev as she will have one stand ! Moreover, today it’s the first day of the Sneak Peeks for the Release of new products on the 16th October. For more information see HERE.

The hot and spicy colours make me totally think of the colours that we begin to see everywhere in the trees ! And what luck, a lot of challenges, this week, focuses on this theme, so there’s a lot of inspiration everywhere !

Cette semaine je vous propose 3 cartes… / This week I propose you 3 cards…

1/ Happy Birthday / Joyeux Anniversaire

I made this card for a friend who celebrated her birthday last Sunday. Moreover, I know she loves warm colours !

This beautiful gerbera from Uniko is one of my favorite stamps lately (if there is a favorite!). I love its wonderful details and its size. It is a pleasure to colour it.

I first die cut a stitched square in a white cardstock. I then stamped the flower with the stem with Versamark ink and then I heat embossed with a Silver Pearl powder. On another cardstock, I stamped and heat embossed the other flower and I cut it with the matching die. I coloured them with watercolor colored pencils.

I foam mounted the stitched square on the double white card, then I glued the other flower over the left corner. To finish I stamped the sentiment and I adhered it over the card.

Stamp & Die: Uniko “Pure florals: gerbera & die bundle” & “Simply said blocks” (sentiment) – Pencils: Faber-Castell watercolour pencils “#414, 416, 418, 421, 467, 473, 483” – Die : Simon Says Stamp “Stitched squares”.
Challenges:
Addicted to CAS #121: Favourite stamp
The Flower challenge #13: Use your favourite flower  – (It may be not my favourite flower but it is my favourite flower stamp lately)
Stamp, Ink Paper challenge #119: Card Maker’s choice
Penny Black and More October challenge: Close to Nature

2/ Juste un mot / Just a note

To illustrate this week’s theme, I absolutely wanted to make a card with Kraft paper. I also took out another one of my favourite stamps, Marvellous Mehndi, but this time I played with the other stamps of the set.

I first stamped the images with Distress inks and then I stamped over them with Versamark ink in order to heat emboss.

Then I had fun colouring the different images with coloured pencils and playing with the different shades of warm colours.

To finish I just stamped the sentiment with Distress ink.

Stamp: Uniko “Marvellous Mehndi”, Simply Graphic “Planche un petit coucou” (sentiment) – Pencils: Faber-Castell “#107, 108, 111, 113, 115, 121, 223, 217, 225, 102” – Ink: Distress “Vintage photo”, Versamark.
Challenges:
Happy Little Stampers October CAS challenge : one layer card
Modsquad Challenge : Color Me Fall

3/ Joyeux Anniversaire / Happy Birthday

I’ve been inspired by the different challenges in progress to make this last card. I’ve been inspired by the latest Sketch of Freshly made Sketches # 307 and by the themes of the challenges CAS watercolour (Happy 1st Birthday !) and Muse where my dear teammate Anita proposes us a wonderful card with fall colours (see my interpretation below in the challenges section).

To illustrate the circle of the sketch, I used a stencil and embossing paste. I let it dry.

For the leaf, I used (again !) the superb technique (see here) of Loll (Stamping with Loll) with the tissue paper. Some tests from a previous card remained. For those who do not know Loll (I doubt there are many), I invite you to visit her site, you will love it! Thank you again Loll for all these wonderful cards that inspire us so much and for the great tutorials !

I die cut the leaf and I adhered it over the tree trunk. Then I stamped the sentiment over black cardstock and I heat embossed with white powder. I glued it on the card.

I foam mounted the panel with the image over the double card.

Stamp: Simply Graphic “planche anniversaire” – Inks: Distress “Mustard seed, Ripe persimmon, Fired brick, Peeled pain” –  Embellishments: Hero Arts “white embossing powder”, SSS EP “antique gold”, Wendy Vecchi “embossing paste” – Stenci: Altenew “tree ring”.
Challenges:
Freshly made Sketches #307
CAS Watercolour october challenge: Fall leaves
Muse #236 (my focus on Anita’s card : fall colours, a technique, a metallic add-on : gold instead of copper, white card base)
ATS&M #262 = Make your mark (use of stencil, embossing paste and tissue paper technique)

And Voilà  ! I hope that these cards inspired you and that you will still be a lot to come and play with us this week ! And don’t forget, you’ll find even more inspiration on the main blog HERE and on my teammates’ blogs, I’m sure they have surprises for you !

Hope you had a great birthday and enjoy your week xx

  8. Gorgeous cards Izzy!! LOVE the Uniko gerberas. The colours are so bright with your w/c pencils. Great design! And I LOVE that autumn leaf. The embossing paste circle in the background looks like the rings of a tree. Perfect backdrop for your beautiful tissue paper embossed leaf. Thanks so much for joining us at CAS Watercolour. And thanks for the lovely comments and shout out! xx

  9. What a beautiful trio of cards, Izzy! I LOVE the hot daisies! Beautifully colored! And your leaf of tissue paper is so pretty perched atop the woodgrain! Thanks so much for sharing with us at CAS Watercolour!

  10. I am so inspired by the fabulous cards that you have created for us this week, Izzy!! Your colouring on the gerbera (a favourite of mine too) is stunning and that gorgeous textured leaf looks perfect against the subtle texture of the tree rings. Using kraft is also a great idea for this week’s challenge. All three are so different but full of wonderful touches x

  11. Gasp! What a gorgeous trio, Isabelle … the colours on the kraft are so warm and cosy … the gerbera is stunning, such a wonderful burst of colour against the crisp white … and what delicious dimension and texture on that tree trunk, that gold touched tissue leaf delicately drifting down onto it is simply beautiful! Mille bises, Anita 🙂

  12. It’s hard to believe that these wonderful cards all are for the same challenge. Even though they all feature “hot and spicy” colors the look so different! I admire your creativity! My favorite is the last one because I really love this tissue paper technique (that I still have to try)!

  13. What a fabulous trio of cards…you are spoiling us. Such a beautiful CAS first card with such pretty colours. The stamping and colouring on the kraft card looks great. Love the texture on the third card and your use of the stencil, still beautifully CAS and love it!

  14. What a fabulous post, Izzy, all 3 cards look amazing! Great use of hot and spicy colors -and how different they look on white and kraft! Your gerberas are wonderfully colored and your third card has absolutely stolen my heart. That leaf is gorgeous, your use of texture paste adds so much dimension and detail and the sentiment heat embossed with white on black adds a lot of contrast and drama. Fantastic work!
