Less is More Week #343 – Use a real object

Bonjour !

Hello !

I hope you are well ! Weeks go by so quickly, we are already at the last Saturday of the month and we are back this week with a new challenge at Less is More! It is the week of …

We would like you to use a real object in your projects (For example: staple, paperclip, button, coin, key, wood, fabric…), it’s up to you and surprise us !

Here are the two cards that I propose you :

1/ Bonne retraite / Happy retirement

My brother asked me to make him a card for a colleague who is retiring. She intends to take advantage of her free time and would like to dedicate to sewing and gardening. So I chose to make my card with fabric to illustrate the “sewing” side and of course the flower for gardening.

I adhered the fabric (3 in total : flower, center and petals) on a double side adhesive sheet, then I die cut the different parts.

I printed the sentiment on a white cardstock that I then die cut with a stitched rectangular die. I mounted the flower on it and I adhered the whole part on a double white card. Quick and simple.

2/Just for you / Juste pour toi

This summer, I saw beautiful projects, on the various blogs, made with tissue paper and inks. I especially admired all the beautiful cards that Loll (from Stamping with Loll) made with this technique. Thank you Loll! I advise you to take a chair, to sit comfortably and to go dreaming while watching her gallery! You will find her tutorial for this technique here.

Of course I wanted to try and here is the result with my second card.

I followed Loll‘s method (spray water on ink and gently put the tissue paper on it) and once the paper was dry, I started again to give even more intensity to the colors.

I also used her technique to put the little touches of silver, which is to crush the tissue paper and to smooth it with the hand to apply Versamark ink and embossing powder. The powder will remain on the reliefs of the crushed paper.

I die cut a window in a double white card and after having glued the tissue paper on a white cardstock, I adhered it inside the card. I heat embossed the sentiment with the same silver powder. Then I adhered a flower in metal, in the center of which I glued a pearl that I previously brushed with pink nail polish.

Dies: MFT “Square Peek-a-Boo window” – Inks: Distress “Broken China, Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry” –  Stamp: Uniko “Pure florals: gerbera” (sentiment) – Embellishments: Pearl and metal flower from my stash, Hero Arts “Silver embossing powder”.

  1. Such a thoughtful design for your first card, Izzy. Perfect use of fabric and flowers to suit the recipient’s interests. And I love the pretty colours of your tissue paper card. I must try that technique, it looks great in the frame xx

  2. Your cards are fabulous, Izzy and just so creative! I love the bright colours of the bold fabric flower and that tissue paper looks amazing – I shall go and check out Loll’s blog. I love how you used nail polish on the centre of the silver flower too. Just so many ideas to enjoy 🙂

  3. Beautiful projects Izzy! Neither technique have I tried argh. Love the pretty fabric on the first card, it was a perfect choice of course for someone wishes to spend more time in the garden. And the tissue paper!!! Wow those little flecks of silver are divine! Especially against the colours. I really must try this. So I need to find a way of bookmarking all the ideas you give me (still not tried the shaving cream technique) . I always love your projects, thank you so much for sharing your ideas 😍😍. Lisa xx

  4. That fabulous fabric flower is fantastic, Isabelle … love that you made it so personal for the recipient … she’ll love that bold, bright bloom! Ahh, Loll’s tissue paper technique … you’ve showcased it beautifully here with the frame and that delicious silver and pink little blossom … it’s a stunner! Bonne semaine, bises, Anita 🙂

Celà me permet de découvrir d’autres techniques 😉
    Bises

  6. Such a personal first card. So pretty with using fabric for the petals and combining gardening and sewing together x Fun and fabulous tissue technique on the second card, so pretty x

  7. What a sweet idea to combine the two interests of the person who will be retiring and make flowers out of fabric! What a special and beautiful card!
And the second one is also spectacular! Your tissue paper backgrounds is out of this world and goes perfectly with the metal flower!
You have outdone yourself again, Izzy!

  8. Always so inspiring, Izzy. Both cards are gorgeous. The fabric flower is so bold and beautiful. And your tissue paper card was executed perfectly. Love the square peek-a-boo window. Enjoy your weekend and have a wonderful week.

  9. TWO and totally inspirational cards Izzy. Your thinking behind the first one for your brother’s colleague’s retirement is just superb and I’m sure she’ll love the 2 hobbies combined on one card in such an elegant way. Your second one is eye-poppingly stunning and I must try those techniques soon. So beautiful and clever ‘real items’ throughout. Have a great week. x

  10. Wow! you have rocked the challenge with two very different styles of card Izzy! The fabric flower is such a young, fresh and vibrant look and it totally suits the recipient too. Now you’ve really inspired me with the second card! That type of technique is ‘right up my street’ as we say (meaning I love things like that!!) and I haven’t seen it before but you can guarantee I’ll try it out really soon. Your card is stunning in the pink and blue colour way with the sparkling silver enhancements. Stunning work xx

  11. Two amazing cards. The fabric flower in your first card is striking -the recipient will love it and it’s so suitable for her future plans! Your second card looks wonderfully artistic, I haven’t tried this technique yet but will definitely do -I’ve received one card made with his technique and the look is so fab IRL, the texture looks amazing. Great job perfecting the technique! Have a good weekend!
