Carte/Card

Create a Smile – Relax

Re-bonjour !

Hello again !

After my post of this morning, I come back again with a card made with alcohol inks but with another technique : this time, water is used !

Last weekend I’ve watched a video from Jennifer McGuire about this technique called “Alcohol ink marbling”. And I could not resist trying it.

Voici ma carte / Here is my card

The technique is very simple, just put in a container of water a few drops of alcohol inks with the colours of your choice. Then you immerse your paper in it and then take it out again: the magic works alone !

I let this panel dry and once dry, I put it through the Big Shot between the two cutting pads to flatten it and to prevent it from warping. This is a tip that I read on a blog but I’m sorry I do not remember which one (I’m pretty sure it’s Loll but I can not find it). Then I stamped all the waves with Versamark inks and I white heat embossed.

I flat adhered this panel on a double Navy blue card. In the same card stock I made a frame with a dotted square die to cut the inside and another die to make the waves on the top. And I flat glued it over this panel.

On a white card stock I stamped the gull with black Memento ink and I softly coloured it with markers. Then I fussy cut it and I foam mounted it in the frame.

To finish I die cut the sentiment, once in blue and once in white. I adhered them together slightly offset, then I glued them on the card.

To make this card I get inspired with the sketch of Create a Smile and the themes over at CAS Watercolour and CASology.

I really love this technique and I have more panels that only wait to be used !

  1. Your background turned out amazing, Izzy! This technique has been around for many years. I first saw it done by Andy Skinner seven years ago and he called it Floating Alcohol Inks. It’s such a great technique as you end up with very artsy panels with different design on each side.

Your panel is awesome for a water scene. Adding the white embossed waves is perfect!! I love your floating gull with the fun black frame. Great card! Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Watercolour! xx

  2. Gosh, such an effective technique, Izzy … that gorgeous blue background really does look like the ocean! That little gull looks so wonderfully chilled out, bobbing about in the white waves! Bises, Anita 🙂

  3. How interesting to use alcohol ink with water, Izzy. I need to try that! Love your watery background and the sweet gull floating on it! Thanks so much for sharing with us at CAS Watercolour!

  4. Love it! I tried this technique when Jennifer first did it – it was completely fascinating and amazing that you do it on normal cardstock too. I still have a few panels left that I didn’t use yet as I didn’t quite some of the patches of colour I got. But maybe they can be used with a sentiment to cover those bits :). I’ll have a think! I love how your card came out, perfect background for this little gull. Have a great week Izzy xx

  5. Now that looks like one fun and unique technique which I am definitely going to try. Thank you for the tip too. The design of your card is fabulous and the little duck is adorable x
