Less is More #369 – Bring something back

Bonjour !

Hello !

It’s with a new challenge at Less is More that I come back today, and what a challenge ! We propose you to use something that you have not used on your cards for ages, something out of fashion, an old item that you have in your stash !

For this fortnight, we have the pleasure to welcome two talented designers, Cara of Crafting Bunnies and Sue of Sentimentally Sue. Why not pop over their blog to admire their fabulous cards and you can leave them a nice comment !

Our sponsor for April is Happy Little Stampers and if you are the lucky winner for this month, you will receive a gift certificate to purchase stamps or dies in their online shop.

I must admit that I had a lot of fun with this challenge, I do not know about you, but I have a lot of product in my stash that I hardly use anymore ! But with this challenge I had the pleasure of dusting them out and playing with them, but having always in mind our rules for a Clean & Simple design !

On a post-it I made a list of all that I used before and that I do not use any more and I started making a first card. But I got so involved in the game, that I ended up doing a card for each mentioned bullet point ! So take a chair, a drink and sit down, it may be a bit long !

1/ Eyelets / Oeillets – Hello

I only used cutting dies here to make this card. The eyelets are here to bring some touches of colour.

Dies: Impression Obsession “Mini rectangle tags 2”, Lifestyle Crafts “Jump Rope alphabet” (sentiment) – Embellishments : K-Kingdom eyelets.

2/ Brads / Attaches parisiennes – Heureux anniversaire

After the eyelets, it was normal to use the brads. I simply stamped these small flowers in black, I cut them with the matching die, then I put brads in the center.

I stamped the stems on the card and the sentiment on a Vellum strip that is mounted on the card with brads. The flowers are glued with adhesive foam. In order not to see the brads inside the card, the panel is stuck on a double card.

Stamps: Uniko “Flower Power #1 & Flower Power #2”, Simply Graphic “planche anniversaire” (sentiment) – Die : Uniko “Flower Power #1- #6 collection” – Ink : Catherine Pooler “Lime Rickey” – Embellishments : Craft Sensations brads.

3/ Buttons / Boutons – Hello (using sponsor stamp)

I dry embossed the frame on the double card with a die. Then I stamped the different elements in black and I heat embossed them. To finish I glued the buttons on the center of the suns. It coudn’t be more simple !

Stamps: Happy Little Stampers “Whimsical friends” – Die : MFT “Wonky stitched square” – Embellishments : buttons from my stash.

4/ Flower Soft – Chill out this winter (using sponsor stamp)

Stamps: Happy Little Stampers “Snow friends” – Die : MFT “Square peek-a-boo window” – Ink : Distress “Salty ocean” – Pencils : Faber-Castell polychromos “#102, 230, 232, 234” – Embellishments : Flower Soft “Polar white”.
Challenge :
Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge : Add some texture (flower soft)

When Flower Soft has been released I wanted to have all the colours ! Fortunately I only bought a few because I rarely use it although I still find it very pretty !

I die cut a window on a cardstock then I drew the opening on the double card. I stamped the sentiment.

I stamped the bear cub and I masked it with a post-it to make the background in blue with a brush and Distress ink.

On the bottom part I put some glue and I poured some Flower Soft on it to make the snow.

To finish I foam mounted the panel with the window on top of the double card.

For this card, apart from marking the outline with a die and stamped the sentiment, I did nothing more than paste stickers !

6/ Ribbon / Ruban – Go with the flow

For those who do not know it yet, I love blue and everything related to the sea. So 1 year ago, although one of my drawers is already filled with ribbons, I could not help buying this pretty blue ribbon with these little turquoise fish !

The opportunity with this challenge to use it! So I create a seabed with Distress oxide inks on a Mix Media paper strip. I cut a square slightly smaller than the double card and I cut one of the borders with a wavy die.

I adhered the seabed onto the panel, as well as the ribbon and I stamped the sentiment in blue. Then I foam mounted the panel over the double white card.

Stamps: Hero Arts “my monthly hero july 2016” – Die : Impression Obsession “Ocean border” – Ink : Distress Oxide “Mermaid lagoon, Salty ocean”, Distress “Chipped sapphire” – Embellishments : Ribbon from my stash.

  1. Amazing! Great job of bringing back things but making them so new and fresh! I’m so inspired by your work! So happy you could share this with us at Happy Little Stampers Anything Goes w/ Dies Challenge and good luck!

  2. Wow you made so many cards! Great to see how you use those “forgotten” things and make beautiful cards with them! Great CAS and colours for the card that you put into the gallery at TIME OUT and thank you for joining us at TIME OUT again!

  3. Haha! I could have written the exact same list! I have brads, eyelets, ribbon, buttons, flowersoft and stickers all sitting there, unused for a loooong time. But you made all your cards look so modern and contemporary, it makes me wonder if we need to bring all these products back! The eyelet card is so simple but yet so gorgeous (love those little pops of colour), and I also adore the flowers with brads – so fun! I need to spend a week doing a list of things that you inspire me to try! I would love to make use of all the bits I have sitting there – it is not good to waste. I shall bookmark this post :). Thank you! Lisa xx

  4. OMG! what awesome cas cards you have created Izzy. I will admit to using flower soft a few times lately. It’s fun stuff. Funny how things go out of vogue and we are left with all those items we ‘had to have’. Great use of all those bits and bobs here. Thanks so much for sharing them with us at HLS for our Anything Goes with Dies and ATSM for Make Your Mark.

  5. Izzy where do you find the time to create so many cards! You really are on fire and it’s obvious we crafters are all hoarders at heart! So many things I’ve hidden away like brads, eyelets, buttons and stickers too. You’ve really opened up a whole new range of ideas to bring those out of fashion items back and in a perfectly CAS style. I’m swooning over all of these and can’t pick a favourite! You’ve rocked the challenge that’s for sure. x

  6. You are really amazing, Izzy! Making a fabulous CAS card for all of the items on your list! I also still have most things on your list and am waiting for them to become trendy again! Maybe with the help of your cards… You definitely demonstrated that these items still look awesome on cards!
I didn’t know and now love the french word for brads: attaches parisiennes!

  7. Incroyable !!! Tu nous as fait une superbe galerie de cartes très modernes tout en utilisant des éléments «has been» 😜.
    Chapeau bas l’artiste !
    Bises.

  8. OMG, OMG! OMG! I am bowing down to you, Izzy! You’ve completely rocked this challenge! Except for flowersoft, everything else brings back memories of my crafting journey. All cute cards and wonderfully CAS. So inspired and blown away at your endless talent, teamie! Great job!
ps. Congrats on winning at SSS Wednesday challenge last week. 👏

  9. A great selection of unused stash give an up to date twist Izzy! We all have something gathering dust in dark corners of our craftroom, I know I have.
Thanks for making your mark at ATSM too. 🙂

  10. Izzy, brava, brava, brava!! Amazing work and so inspiring. You make me want to go and play with buttons and brads and I NEVER want to use them these days. 🙂 Thank you for all the inspiration! I think the eyelet-card might be favorite out of all of these -the colors of the eyelets really pop from the otherwise all white card. Great design, perfectly CAS, very stunning. The decorative edge you added to your card with the ribbon -perfect with the underwater scene. You’ve truly been on fire with this challenge!! xxx

  11. I agree this is the perfect challenge…if I had more time, I could have made many, many cards. All of yours are amazing, and you should use all of these items because they are just perfect!

  12. Great job using all of those supplies. My list would look a lot like yours. Lol. In fact I even dug a brad out and used it this morning on a card. Great job with the challenge.
