Less is More #366 – Monochrome

Bonjour !

Hello !

I hope you are well and have enjoyed our February challenges to celebrate the 7 years of Less is More. I do not know about you but these last 15 days have passed so quickly that I am already back today with a new challenge at Less is More, this is the color challenge …

Definition: Monochrome – using only black, white and grey or tones of one colour.

It’s also a new month which means a new sponsor who is none other than STAMPlorations and we are delighted to welcome Shery as our guest designer as well as Maaike from Cards by Maaike who was our winner from December.

For this challenge I decided to play with the tones of one colour and of course I couldn’t help myself to play with blue shades !

1/ Happy Birthday

Having recently received new shades of blue from Altenew, it was the opportunity to try them.

On a white cardstock I stamped the sentiment with the darkest blue then I stamped the other patterns with the other shades of blue.

I die cut a square in a blue cardstock and I adhered it over the double white card. Then I glued the image on top of it.

Stamp: Uniko “background builders – round in circles” & “birthday sentiments” – Die: SSS “Stitched squares” – Inks: Altenew Deal Blue Seas “Starlight, Tide blue, Turquoise, Sea breeze”.

2/ It’s a new day (using sponsor Stamp)

On a double white card I stamped and I white heat embossed the image. Then with mini applicators I blended Distress inks to coloured the image.

I finished by stamping the sentiment with black ink.

Stamp: STAMPlorations “new beginning”  – Inks: Distress “Ripe persimmon, Spiced marmalade, Mustard seed, Squeezed lemonade, Vintage photo”, Versafine “Black Onyx” – EP: Hero Arts “white”.

For this last card I kept neutral tones just as the card base.

On a double Kraft card I stamped, masked, stamped…. with an ink slightly darker than the Kraft colour.

Then with pencils in shades of cream and soft brown I coloured the petals and very slightly around the outlines of the flowers. To finish I stamped the sentiment.

Stamp: Uniko “Pure florals – cosmos” & Simply Graphic “Planche un petit coucou”  – Inks: Memento Luxe “Peanut Brittle” – Pencils: Faber-Castell polychromos “#103, 186, 187”.

  1. Izzy, you’ve smashed it again with these three beauties! Love those shades of blue….need them now to add to my collection! The sunrise blend is gorgeous and perfect for this challenge. Your third card stole my heart, I love the cosmos image and it looks great here multiplied and in the neutral tones. Sorry for the late visit! xx

  2. I was hoping you’d create something in blue hues when I saw monochrome, Isabelle … you did … and it’s fabulous … bold, graphic, stylish and wonderfully funky! I can almost feel the warmth of that gorgeous, wonderfully blended sunrise … and those creamy white cosmos against the kraft are so beautifully coloured! A brilliant trio! Tres bon weekend … bises and hugs, Anita 🙂

  3. I always enjoy a graphic, modern card like your blue one! The colors of the sunrise are gorgeous and brilliant. And the neutral colors of the third card with a little subtle pencil coloring look fabulous, too! I think you covered it all with your three cards!

  4. Beautiful designs, Izzy! I came over to say how much I loved your birthday card in blue tones and was blown away by the gorgeous sunrise image. The neutrals on your last card give it a really dreamy look too. I hope you have had a great weekend x

  5. A trio of monochromatic beauties Izzy. Loving those new blues from Altenew – on my wishlist now! The sunset image is just stunning on your second card and coloured so beautifully then I love the rustic charm of the third one. Your subtle colouring to the cosmos blooms is fabulous. x

  6. Classy first card and love the stamps and shades of blues. What a beautiful second card and the sunny colours look perfect. Very classy last card….CAS perfection. Thank you for the wonderful inspiration x

  7. Fabulous trio of cards once again, Izzy! The blue birthday card is so fun and your last one is so elegant. But wow to your second card! Your ink blending is flawless and those blended colours are gorgeous. Amazing makes! xx

  8. Oh my! You have some fantastic inspiration here Izzy. Your cool blue card is wonderful with all those geometric patterns (it’s one of my fave colours too and I’ve just been eyeing up those inks so I’m jealous you have them already). Your sunrise is awe inspiring and stunning! So warm and happy….hmmm, think that’s my favourite one too. I also love the delicate look of those blooms with the pretty white shading on the kraft card. Gosh…just going for another look at these xx

  9. Three super pretty cards, and a great theme too. I rarely do monochromatic cards, but I love the look of them. The last card is so elegant and soft, I think it is a card for so many occasions, and also would be beautiful for those difficult sympathy cards that sometimes have to be made. The second one sings to me as I love white embossing and bright colours, particularly with a black sentiment. And the first is gorgeous with all those blues – I have a love/hate relationship with my Altenew inks as I love the colours but often find I have to double stamp as they are splotchy. I do however have the cubes not the full size and that may be why. Thank you as always for you beautiful inspiring post. Have a lovely weekend, Lisa x

  10. Stunning trio, Izzy! The second card is maybe my favorite: I love this stamp (need it to my collections!) and the way you added color to it looks amazing. Great combining of more artsy feel (your inking) and the contemporary feel of the image. Love the graphic look of your first card and naturally I’m into all the blues in it blue being my favorite color! Stunning pencil coloring on your third card, I love the all natural feel. Great job with all these three! xxx
