Less is More #393 – Subtle Colours

Bonjour !

Hello !

Already 15 days spent and we are back with a new challenge at Less is More. Today we propose a colour challenge, or better, a challenge of subtle colours !

Our sponsor for the month of April is Seven Hills Crafts and our Guest Designer is Milla from Mustesormi, our February winner. I invite you to visit her blog and leave her a nice comment.

I must admit that at first sight the theme left me perplexed. Subtle colours ? Are these pastel colours ? Shades that go well together ? Maybe a little of both ? And it is on this last observation that I remained. I wrote in Google “Subtle colours palette” and found some wonderful palettes. I get inspired by three palettes not only from a color point of view, but also from a theme point of view.

1/ Palette nº1 – Make a wish card

The pictures that illustrate the palettes are all beautiful and it immediately reminded me of the new challenge of Gundi, Rosi and Cornelia “Day of the Month Card Club” whose theme is Dandelion. In addition I love this combo of colours.

On a Mix Media strip of paper I blended 4 Altenew inks with a brush and water. I dried with the heat gun and I stamped the dandelions with white ink.

On the double white card I also stamped the dandelions but in a very soft grey and the sentiment in a darker grey.

Stamp: Uniko “Organic wishes” – Inks: Altenew “Mountain mist, Volcano lake, Lagoon, Emerald, Limestone, Silver stone”.

Day of the Month Card Club #2 – National Dandelion day

2/ Palette nº2 – Spring greetings card

Well I’m not very happy with this card because I wanted to try the no line watercoloring technique for these tulips but I didn’t have ink clear enough for this technique with this very pale pink. All the pink inks I have are darker than the pink I get with my Zig brush pencil.

So I stamped the two tulips with Distress ink onto a Bristol Strathmore card stock and I watercolored them with the Zig Clear Colour brush pens.

Stamp: Create a Smile “Tender Tulips” & “Crokisses”(sentiment) – Inks: Altenew “Silver stone” (sentiment), Distress “Spun sugar” – Brush Pens : Zig “#200, 025, 045, 041”.

3/ Palette nº3 – Happy Sweet Day

Update : I’m thrilled and honoured to be one of the weekly winners over at CAS Colours and Sketches

Although we are close to Easter, instead of small sugar eggs with pastel colour I chose to use this lollipop and candies that remind me of my childhood.

For the design I also get inspired by the sketch of the CAS Colours and Sketches challenge. On a white card stock, previously cut with a scalloped die, I stamped the candies with the colours of the palette. Then I adhered the panel on the double white card as for the sketch.

On a scrap of white card stock I stamped and white heat embossed the lollipop and I coloured it with colour pencils. Then I fussy cut it and I foam mounted it on the card. To finish I stamped and black heat embossed the sentiment.

Stamp: Winnie & Walter “Sweet holiday” & Uniko “Bee happy”(sentiment) – Inks: Catherine Pooler “It’s a girl, Aquatini, It’s a boy, Grass skirt, Limoncello” – Colour Pencils : Faber-Castell Polychromos “#104, 129, 154, 156, 162”.

  3. What a gorgeous trio of cards, Izzy. You certainly settled on wonderful color pallets in the “subtle” genre. I love the dandelions on your first card. Gorgeous colors and I love the way you went over the edges of color. Just beautiful. Your tulips are so beautifully colored and I love the splatters. The candy card is so fun and deliciously colored. Wonderful work, as always. Hugs, Stephanie.

  4. All your cards on this post are fabulous but the one I will be focusing on is the last one! Love the swirls in your lollipop and the fun layout! So happy you played along with Seize the Birthday as we enjoy having your work in our gallery!

  5. Such a pretty, subtle and spring-like trio, Izzy … what fabulous choices for your inspiration! All three are clean, soft and delicious … and you know I’m going to be especially drawn to that first one with the delicate dandelion and those beautiful blue hues! Bises, Anita 🙂

  6. Oh these are all so wonderful! Thanks for playing along with us at CC&S! Your card is so sweet – love the soft colors and white embossing!

  7. I also love this color combination and it fits so well with the dandelions !! I particularly like that you only dyed a strip on the card with these colors.
Thank you for being part of our new challenge with DotMCC.

Merci beaucoup!

  9. What a beautiful ombre card with such pretty colours and love the stamping with the grey ink. You’ve done a great job with card number two Izzy and the pink tulips are so pretty. Fun last card and such a sweet idea. All three cards are fabulous and what amazing inspiration, thank you x.

  10. How creative you are, Izzy! Love the lollipop with pastel colors. Thanks for playing along with us at CAS Colours & Sketches. Looking forward to seeing your creative projects in the future galleries again.

  12. So many great cards, Izzy! I love your work and your dandelion card is my favourite! However, your candy cane card is very clever and super cute! Thanks so much for joining us at Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week!

  13. Lovely work once again, Izzy. Your first card is my favourite, those colours are my favourites and they work so well with the grey and the dandelion theme. Although the tulips aren’t as you intended, I think it’s a beautiful card, I love all the delicate darker pink lines in the petals. And your third card is such fun, I love this layout with the offset panel. Love how you’ve taken inspiration from the colour palette photos for all of these xx

  14. A lovely collection of artwork and although your not happy with the pink Tulips I think they are beautiful, many thanks for joining in with our ‘Spring’ themes at Stamping Sensations and Penny Black and More challenges.

  15. You are rocking this subtle colour challenge Izzy! My favourite is your gorgeous teal dandelion card. The graduation of shades in the same colour is so beautifully subtle that they are stunning. Your tulip card is coloured perfectly – the hint of pink brings out the fragility of the petals. And finally your sweetie card is just so much fun. Gorgeous makes xx
